postage stamp quilt

YAY - my postage stamp quilt top is finished - I sewed the last few seams to join all the rows this morning.

Don't get me wrong, I've loved making it but it is the biggest quilt I've made so far and just a little time consuming with all those seams which is what happens with 1,800 2 inch squares :)

but I'm pretty happy with how its turned out and now just need to find some buttercup backing fabric and this one is definitely going to be long arm quilted - it measures 80" x 90" (2 x 2.3 metres)

omg - huge storms and hail stones

that's right - I said hail stones - a day before the first day of summer and last night we had huge storms with some of the biggest lightening strikes I've seen for a while and to finish we had a hail storm  - and of course I had to take these photos at 2.30 am :)

its been raining all morning as well so looks like we're set for a wet start to summer.

before the storm last night I finished sewing all the strips together for the postage stamp quilt - and while I was pressing the final seam on each row I discovered a little boo boo ...

so a bit of quick unpicking, move a block to the end of the row and then a resew and you'd never know !

I figure with 1,800 2 inch square blocks that make up this quilt - something had to go wrong :)

weekend sewing

I finished block 11 of the Blogger's Quilt-Uber-Fest on Saturday - I have the pieces cut out for block 12 but then I'm down to mostly scraps and struggling for blocks 13 - 16 !

I might try and get a couple of fat quarters to finish the last blocks but for the moment I've put them away to think about it - after a week of non-stop uber-fest block making I need a change ! oh, and after seeing this photo - eeek - I think I need to redo the middle row !

I also started sewing my postage stamp quilt blocks together...it was a big chain sewing session yesterday with 72 blocks !

then I thought I'd better get a move on with the Sew Mama Sew Modern BOM - I'd like to get up to date before the November block is out...this is the July block - ready to be sewn (i ♥ this colour combination)

so that was my weekend of sewing...hope you got some sewing in as well :)

all strips sewn into blocks - only half at a time could fit on the design wall !

the extra fabric I ordered to finish the postage stamp finally arrived - yay - so I have all the blocks cut out and in strips now just waiting to be sewn together !

naked bed challenge update

I decided to go with the postage stamp quilt using a Buttercup by Fig Tree jelly roll - I also used a Moda Solid Butterscotch for the background.

I received the background fabric last Friday so spent Saturday and Sunday cutting the background and then sewing the strips together however the pattern I'm using (thanks Rachel from PS I Quilt) has a finished size of 60 x 80 inches and I've decided that I want to make it bigger for my bed so I'm going to go 80 x 90 inches which means I need to order some more fabric and make more blocks - so I won't reach the deadline which Sarah kindly extended to next Monday but I think I'll be happier with the bigger size.

I've ordered the extra fabric so will wait until all the strips are done before putting the blocks together.

So this weekend I can hopefully get Marney's mini wild things nearly finished.
