do you love kangaroos ?

I live at the end of a dirt road with hills at the back and now that its getting a bit warmer the kangaroos come down during the day to eat - its always a struggle to get a nice close photo of them because Pippi usually sees them before I do and of course they can't cope with her constant barking ! but this morning I got her inside before she saw this one across the road so I got a fairly close shot.

Last night I finished my first block in the Blogger's Block of the Month and now need to get onto the second block.

and I hope you've been enjoying The Ghastlies Blog Hop - there are fabulously talented ladies making gorgeous ghastlie projects - they are all amazing so make sure you join in the ghastlie fun - you'll find the schedule on this post :)

blogger's block of the month

Another block in the blogger's block of the month is up today - I finally sewed my first block last night and half way through I was wondering whether to change the white !

Not knowing how much fabric will be used makes it a bit tricky but if the blocks finish at 8 inches I'm hoping I can make 42 blocks from my layer cake and as I'm making at least 3 of each block I'll keep this one as it is - so now just need to sew it all together.

I'm still waiting for my sewing machine to come back but in the meantime I borrowed a machine from one of the girls at work yesterday (thanks Kylie) so I can get sewing again - I think I've been going through withdrawals !

This month's block is a nice star block - I'm going to try and get this one done by the weekend now that I can sew again :)

I also cut out my projects for The Ghastlies blog hop last night so I should be ready for my blog hop day next Tuesday.

My final order of The Ghastlies fabric arrived today - just in the nick of time...

I also received the backing fabric for my Kate's Stack and Slash quilt and the orange spot is one of the fabrics I'm going to use for the Modern BOM quilt along.

welcome ghastlie fans ... to a very ghastly blog hop

Behind the scenes 54 Ghastlie obsessed stitchers have been rather busy - I cannot wait to see what my ghastlie sisters have created. Madame Ghastlie who is the ghastlie brains behind this blog hop wrote this special little poem to welcome you all...

If you have this thing for Ghastlies
and they have tied you in a knot
and you wish you could get them out of your mind
than this may be a thought.
We heard her plea for a cure
Mdm Samm was pos/it/ively sure
that we could stitch the nights away
in hopes that we MAY----???
( all 54 of us)
BUT....
The side effects are Ghastlie
there is no mistaking too
if you don't run this very minute
YOU too will catch the FLU...
We suspected all along
this was her master plan
she did not want to be alone,
 with all  YOU Ghastlie FANS...

I suspect there will be a CURE somewhere in one of these blogs...

so here is our schedule - each one will link you to the Ghastlie sisters...

18 October 2011

bloggers' quilt-uber-fest

I've cut out more of my blocks...I'm waiting until I sew all of these up before I cut the last 4 to see if I have any fabric or blocks leftover - my fabric pile for these blocks is getting very small !

17 October 2011

only a week to go...

until the start of The Ghastlies blog hop - yay.

I've ordered the ghastlies fabric from three different places in the past month and I'm still waiting for some to arrive - looks like I'm going to be very busy trying to get things sewn at the last minute.

so in the meantime I'm singing ... please please mr postman ...

16 October 2011

hexagon quilt

The other day I found a hexagon quilt-a-long that was done by Julie over at Jaybird Quilts in 2010.

Hexagon Quilt Along by Jaybird Quilts

It looks really good and has five different kinds of hexagons - I've decided to go with the solid triangle hexagons so I can use the Summer House fat quarters that I received earlier this week.

So I cut out the fabric today and started playing around on the design wall.

I'm really hoping my sewing machine will be ready by the end of this week - its nearly doin' my head in !!

09 October 2011

bloggers' quilt-uber-fest

Scott Hansen from Blue Nickel Studios has organised a quilt fest for 16 days in October and of course even without a sewing machine I had to join in !

this is my fabric selection - including Marcia Derse, Basic Grey, Cloud 9.

I've cut out the first six blocks and today will do blocks 7 and 8 so I'm keeping up at least. Blocks 1, 2, and 3 in photo

My machine is away for a service (and has been for two weeks) and I got a call from the guy on Friday to tell me there are some dead spots in the motor - so its going to take a week or so longer till I get it back - while I was talking to him, he told me he'd found a 1/4 inch foot in my machine - so that's where it went and for the past month I've been blaming Pippi for stealing it :)  I took it off when I used the walking foot recently and then couldn't find it so it had slipped down through the needle plate - yay I'm so glad its been found.

Anyway, having no machine means I'm doing some handwork so those Polka Dot ladies might get finished sooner rather than later !

04 October 2011

fabric for modern block of the month sew along

I've finally decided on the fabric for the Sew Mama Sew Modern BOM.
After putting together the stack and slash quilt I fell in love with Pat Bravo's bohemian soul lace in gold and I loved the orange polka dot in that quilt as well - just needed one more fabric.

I had a look at the fabrics in my Fat Quarter Shop Blogger's fat quarter bundles and I liked one in the bundle that John from Quiltdad put together so I looked up the name and its another fabric from Pat Bravo - nature elements in ocean breeze.  I'll use Kona Snow for the background fabric.

I've put in my fabric order but the lace in gold is on backorder so may take a little while - lucky its a year long block of the month !
