blogger's block of the month

September was the final month for the blogger's block of the month which started in September 2011 - I already had the June, July, and August blocks cut out so thought I'd get them sewn over the past few days and I also did the September double star blocks too.

of course now I've discovered I have 39 blocks - so I needed to either take some out or add more so I'm going to do 3 more of the September double star block to get 42 blocks.

I really like these blocks and I can't wait to get the quilt sewn together - I'm thinking about a small white sashing - maybe 1/2 inch - between the blocks just in case some don't square up exactly.  They are 8" square so it will end up around 51 x 59 - just the right size for a lap quilt :)

weekend sewing

I had a fairly productive weekend of cutting and sewing last weekend.

I'm making an interlocking wonky stars quilt for the down under doll quilt swap - I cut and sewed all the wonky star blocks - its going to be fairly big at 20 inches square.  Its up on the design wall where it will stay for a little while until I'm happy with the final layout before I sew it all together.

I also cut out the blocks for the June, July, and August blogger's block of the month - it finishes soon so I'm happy to be up to date with this one - well, after I sew all the blocks together that is !

and I finally sewed the blades of the traditional dresden plate block together and then made the circles for both the dresden blocks from the craftsy bom - using the perfect circles templates that arrived last week.

I'm really happy I bought those little circles - its a quick and easy way to get a perfect circle !!  they're now pinned and ready to be appliqued to the backgrounds.

Oh, and before I go - I've actually done some more hexy flowers for the hexy MF quilt-along - 9 done and only 65 to go - gee - they really are slow going :)  you may have seen this photo before as I used it in my august fresh sewing day post the other day.

I think I need to up my sewing rate otherwise I won't be finished this one until the middle of next year ... on second thoughts ... maybe I should just make this a 12 month project so I don't worry about how slow I'm going - you know, I think I'll just do that :)

more blogger's block of the month

this weekend I decided to get some more blogger's bom blocks done - april and may

the may block was a jewel box block which I haven't seen before and I think its really sweet.

I really love the colours in this one - those 1 inch squares might just look like little jewels :)

next time I'd definately make sure all of the 1 inch blocks contrasted more with the background !

and this is the april block - according to amy from mrs schmenkman quilts - its called triangle squares designed by grandma dexter and its block # 2041 in the encyclopedia of pieced quilt patterns !  I really like how this one turned out as well.

so that's my weekend sewing along with those slow poke hexies of course !

blogger's block of the month

I was having sewing withdrawls tonight so I decided to head into the sewing room and catch up on some of my blogger's bom blocks.

I haven't done any of these blocks since February - jeepers - that's quite a bit of catching up to do !

so I did the march block which was a churn dash - I was pretty happy with the first two as you can see the churn dash pretty clearly ...

but then when I'd made the third one I had a hard time being able to see the pattern - it really looked more like a cross block !

so I just had to re-do it - I replaced the green rectangles with yellow and I can make out the churn dash pattern a bit better !

so that's march done - now to do the other months :)
